Meet Your Match
ASPCA®âs Meet Your Match®
You could be gazing at the animal of your dreams, but you just canât tell what sheâs thinking behind that furry face. What if you knew a little something about her personality and habits before you moved in together? The ASPCAâs Meet Your Match program wouldnât let you go home without knowing whoâs in that carrier or on that leash. MYM is the only method in existence today that evaluates an animalâs behavior and interests and matches them to an adopterâs preferences so that you take home a pet you can really click with.
Alberta Animal Services uses MYM and gives personality test to all of our adoptable dogs and cats. The MYM Safer Test is done on every dog before it is placed up for adoption.Â
Canine-ality⢠and Puppy-alityâ¢
The Meet Your Match Canine-ality/Puppy-ality assessment begins with an initial MYM SAFER®(Safety Assessment for Evaluating Rehoming) behavior screening to make sure each pooch is a good candidate for adoption. Dogs are then tested on their friendliness, playfulness, energy level, motivation and drive, and placed into one of nine color-coded Canine- or Puppy-alities. Some pooches are laid-back âCouch Potatoes,â others are curious âBusy Bees,â and then there are the action hero âGo-Getterâ types.
As an adopter, you also get a color based on your preferences and lifestyle. On your visit to the adoption facility, youâre given a purple, orange or green guest pass to match the pets who might suit you best. You donât always have to go with your own color, but at least youâll know who youâre mixing with!

Feline-alityâ¢
Each adoptable cat is assessed based on level of interest in play, exploring, âtalking,â and being the center of attention so that he or she can be placed into one of the nine color-coded âfeline-alityâ types that make up the Meet Your Match program. Green cats are savvy and adventurous, orange cats make the perfect companions and purple kitties are quiet, seek affection and stay out of trouble. The color is indicated on the catâs kennel card, along with a short description, so youâll know just who youâre dealing with in your quest for your dream kitty.
